Looks Like You Know What You're Doing

SIDE NOTE: This unfinished piece was done a while ago but it applied to my life right now and it's been way too long between blogs.

I did beyond well at a recent bowling tournament, which was pretty awesome, but not the only thing that happened. Reflecting back on it, bowling is not just a physical skill, it’s a mental skill too. In a bowling tournament there are brackets. Basically, Brackets is gambling. You can bet on how well you will bowl in the tournament against other players, and that to me really dictates how much you believe in yourself. Will I get too nervous? Will betting make me aim for the gutter? Trust me…I had more questions than this in my brain, but let’s skip to how I got started in this whole legit bowling thang.

I started bowling in a league because a friend asked me to. I tried out for a tournament because the same friend believed that I would rock at it. In both instances I was nervous but never too timid not to try. So I tried and I began my first season in a bowling league. I’ve played sports before but never felt apart of the team, but bowling is way different. My team balances each other out. When one teammate bowls cruddy, the other picks up the slack. It happens all the time!  I feel supported…not only support by my team but by other teams as well. Everyone had pointers for me and when I say everyone….I mean EVERYONE, even the opposing team. My team didn’t have to slap hands with the opposite team at the end of a game like I remember from basketball. We shake hands and we high five the other team because we want to! If they get a killer spare or a wicked strike there are cheers from both teams and that to me is…..AWESOME!!!!

Anyway…this blog posting is by far the longest (and I am a horrible writer) but to sum it up…..bowling has made me a stronger person. In brackets I made a small bet the first day and doubled my money….the second day, I bet more….once again…doubled my money. But put that all aside, what really happened was I doubled myself confidence. Maybe I really do look like I know what I am doing.......
